Zusammenfassung: | Results are given of studies on the formation and persistence of trihalomethanes during the chlorination and heating of cooling water for the nuclear reactors at the Savannah river plant near Aiken, S.C. The study showed that the amounts of trihalomethanes formed during chlorination were insignificant. Increasing the temperature of the chlorinated water increased production of trihalomethanes, but heating also caused more rapid dissipation of these compounds. |
