A partial carbon budget for Lake Pontchartrain, Louisiana
Measurements of benthic community oxygen demand along a transect from the north shore to the center of the lake indicates that more carbon is used for benthic metabolism alone than is supplied by primary production. This apparent anomaly is examined and hypotheses presented to explain it.
