Designing Venice's wastewater system

The problems associated with designing a new wastewater collection system for Venice are outlined. The proposed collection network would be based on each islet having a gravity collecting pipe network connecting the wastewater outfalls to a storage tank from which a pumping station would deliver the wastewater to a main long-distance conveying network. Pipes would be sealed to prevent high-tide saltwater infiltration. Wastewater treatment would take place on the mainland or Lido island. Pipe selection and the pumping system design are considered.
