Corinthium aes and black bronze in the early medieval period

Recent research has established the existence of a previously unknown series of distinctive bronzes with fine black patinas. These patinas have been produced using related techniques by cultures stretching through almost four millennia from ancient Egypt to modern Japan, and are probably to be equated with the prestigious, but hitherto enigmatic Corinthium aes of Classical literature.
