Citry de la Guette, Translator or "Remanieur"? A Seventeenth-Century Adaptation of a Medieval Chronicle

Samuel de Broe, seigneur de Citry de la Guette published his "Histoire de la conqueste du royaume de Jerusalem sur les Chrestiens par Saladin" in 1679, claiming that it was a bona fide translation of an Old French manuscript. Because the work is so mired in 17th century style, historians wonder at his audacity of protestations of fidelity to his source.
