Inrush current simulation of two-winding power transformer using machine parameters estimated by winding structure design procedure

This paper presents a technique for estimation of machine parameters of a two‐winding power transformer using a winding structure design procedure. In particular, it is very difficult to obtain machine parameters for transformers in customers' facilities. Using the estimation technique, the mac...

description This paper presents a technique for estimation of machine parameters of a two‐winding power transformer using a winding structure design procedure. In particular, it is very difficult to obtain machine parameters for transformers in customers' facilities. Using the estimation technique, the machine parameters can be calculated from only the nameplate data of these transformers. Subsequently, EMTP‐ATP simulation of the inrush current was carried out using the machine parameters estimated by the techniques developed in this study, and the simulation results were found to reproduce the measured waveforms. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
