description Agriculture sector has been identified as a main contributor to the environmental problem in England especially associated with degradation of river water quality as a result of mismanagement of agricultural land. Maize cultivation is one of the contributors. Therefore, this article aims to described the functions of policy, guidelines and incentive scheme implemented by DEFRA, cooperating with EA, to establish sustainable development and environmentally friendly farm management associated with maize cultivation. These have been implemented by various approaches introduced by CAP (Common Agricultural Policy), CSF (Catchment Sensitive Farming), AES (Agri-Environment Scheme), COGAP (Code of Good Agriculture Practise), and WFD (Water Framework Directive) and DWPA (Diffuse Water Pollution from Agriculture). Thus policies and incentives have been implemented via various incentive schemes (SFP-SPS, ESS-ESA, CSF-ECSFDI) and guidelines (GAEC, SMR, SPR, SMP, FER, FEP, RBPG, COGAP-POS and COGAP-POW), and have to be comply to ensure that soil erosion and diffuse pollution problems associated with maize cultivation in England can be overcome.
