description | During the years from 1944 to 1958 in the department of chemistry at the Latvian State University there were defended 17 dissertations of chemical sciences candidates and 3 dissertations of pharmaceutical candidates. The number of assistant professors has grown, however, that of professors has decreased. In 1949 there passed away professor E. Svirlovskis, in 1950 - professor J. Maizitis, in 1954 - professor A. Eesans and in 1955 - professor P. KalniHs. There remained only 3 professors: G. Vanags, A. IeviHs and L. LiepiHa. In 1946 besides the flow of Latvian students there was also formed the flow of students with the Russian language of education. In the study year of 1957/1958 there were studying 296 students. From 1945 to 1958 the department has prepared 738 specialists,. among the 120 specialists of chemical theory, 183 silicate technologists, 204 technologists of wood, 22 technologists of electrochemistry, 84 chemical pharmacies, 78 engineers chemists and 47 technologists of pharmaceutics. In this department graduated 10 future academicians and 3 corresponding members of the Latvian SSR Academy of Sciences. |
