Zusammenfassung: | The paper attempts "to clarify the level of implementation of the rights of the child in Japan and its relevant problems by focusing particularly on the school setting." First, "the problems concerning common rights confronted by children in any country or society" a n d in Japan are regarded: equal rights for foreign, indigenous and caste groups; the human rights of school pupils, including the right to education, school discipline, access to information, corporal punishment by teachers and bullying. Then problems peculiar to Japan are described "which seem to be deeply rooted in the character of Japanese education": children who do not attend school, leisure time, mental and physical health of the child. Finally, difficulties are highlighted "as regards the realization of the rights of the child in education in Japan." (DIPF/Bi.). |
