description Studying how the economies of different nations have grown over time is a fascinating subject. Each nation retains its own distinctive economic identity, although the others are neighbors and allies. Indonesia’s economy heavily depends on international trade, and the nation contributes significantly to the world’s goods sold to other nations. During this period, Malaysia has successfully diversified its economy and made great strides in various sectors, including education, healthcare, and infrastructure. This study is intended to map the economic research of the two nations over five years. We conducted a bibliometric study to map the economic research area in Indonesia and Malaysia between 2018 and 2022 in the Web of Science Core Collection, the world’s leading citation database. The result shows that the economic research discrepancies between Indonesia and Malaysia have been significant over the past five years. Bibliometric studies show that the productivity of Indonesian authors is significantly lower than that of Malaysian authors. Publications in Indonesia surpass Malaysia every year, particularly in quality journals on the Web of Science. Indonesian authors often cover the primary distinction in economic research topics in each country, while Malaysia is more technical in origin. In the last five years, impact research by Malaysian authors has contributed more to science, especially economics.
