description | The goal of this study was to detect and analyze research trends in the use of the flipped classroom model in mathematics education by publishing research findings from the years 2016 through 2021. The flipped classroom model is a mixed learning approach that incorporates two learning phases: outside the classroom learning and within the classroom learning. The adoption of the flipped classroom approach yielded a variety of benefits, particularly in mathematics instruction. However, a bibliometric review study is required to determine to what extent the research trend incorporates the flipped classroom approach. The results of the bibliometric analysis indicated four findings, including (1) the trend of research using the flipped classroom model in mathematics learning continues to increase from 2016-2021, especially after the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020; (2) publications in the Journal of Physics: Conference Series became the most publication, for the category of publication in the type of international conference proceedings, and the International Journal of Mathematical Education in Science and Technology became the most publications, for the publication category in reputable journals; (3) 2020 was the year that received the most publications, that is 15 articles in both journal publications and international conference proceedings; (4) In 5 months in 2021, there were five articles published in both journals and international conference proceedings. Based on these data, it can be stated that the flipped classroom approach is still popular today and will continue to evolve in the future among researchers. |
