Whole genome sequencing of bovine Pasteurella multocida type B isolated from haemorrhagic septicaemia during 2020 major outbreak in East Coast, Malaysia

description | Pasteurella multocida (P. multocida) is a major causative agent of wide-spectrum economically important diseases in bovine species, including fatal haemorrhagic septicaemia. Recent outbreaks caused by this coccobacillus in East Coast, Malaysia have resulted in mass deaths of cattle and water buffalo with severe respiratory distress, hypersalivation and profuse nasal discharge. We described herein the detailed genomic analysis of HS-associated isolates of P. multocida Type B (PMTB) circulating in water buffalo during the outbreak. The total genomic DNA was extracted from overnight cultures. Whole genome sequencing was carried out on an Oxford Nanopore Technology platform using long read protocols. Here, we report a complete genome of Pasteurella multocida (Type B) strain UMP001 comprising 2,322,902 bp genome size with 40.5% of GC contents that is closest to Pasteurella multocida subsp. multocida str. Pm70. Finally, the annotated genomes of P. multocida were submitted to the NCBI GenBank database. In all, this study elucidated complete genome sequences of P. multocida and would be an important addition to the scarce genomic information available for different bovine species. |
