Thermochemical investigation of aqueous solution of Gemini surfactant (12-2-12) and its interactions with pharmacologically important amino acids

In the present study, micellization behaviour of gemini surfactant ethylene-1,2-bis( N , N -dimethyl- N -dodecylammonium bromide) (12-2-12) has been investigated in the presence of three different amino acids (glycine, L-leucine, and L-methionine) at several concentrations (0.01, 0.05, 0.1 mol/kg)....

Zusammenfassung:In the present study, micellization behaviour of gemini surfactant ethylene-1,2-bis( N , N -dimethyl- N -dodecylammonium bromide) (12-2-12) has been investigated in the presence of three different amino acids (glycine, L-leucine, and L-methionine) at several concentrations (0.01, 0.05, 0.1 mol/kg). Measurements via conductometry at 293.15–298.15 K and surface tension measurements at 298.15 K have been employed to study surfactant-amino-acid interactions. Several parameters viz. degree of ionization (α) as well as critical micelle concentration (CMC) plus thermodynamic parameters of micellization viz. standard entropy of micellization ( Δ S m 0 ), Gibbs free energy of micellization ( Δ G m 0 ), and standard enthalpy of micellization ( Δ H m 0 ) were computed by means of conductivity measurements. The repercussions of amino acids on aggregation properties of 12-2-12 are dependent upon their nature, temperature along with concentration and have been utilized to explore interactions existing in these systems.
