Islamic Leadership and Performance: Mediating Role of Affective Commitment at Islamic Boarding Schools in Central Java Indonesia

The purpose of this study is to examine the influence of Islamic leadership on the performance of administrators of Islamic boarding schools in Central Java, Indonesia, through the mediator variable, affective commitment. The sampling technique used in this study was the proportional sampling method, and the data is primarily from the questionnaire. The population of this study is administrators from Islamic boarding schools, totaling 3,927. The sample for this study was 300. The analytical technique used in this study was structural equation modeling (SEM) using partial least squares (PLS) with SmartPLS 3.2.9 software assistance. The results showed that Islamic leadership had a positive and significant effect on the performance of the administrators of Islamic boarding schools, both directly and indirectly, through affective commitment. Islamic leadership had a positive and significant effect on affective commitment, and affective commitment had a positive and significant effect on the performance of the administrators of Islamic boarding schools. The empirical findings indicated that affective commitment has a positive and significant role in supporting and bridging the influence of Islamic leadership in the performance of the administrators from Islamic boarding schools in Central Java, Indonesia. This study can be a reference for leaders and administrators to implement and practice the management of Islamic boarding schools.
