Effect of Gamma Irradiation on Rare Earth Doped Nanocrystalline CaF2

Er-doped calcium fluoride (CaF 2 ) nanoparticles were synthesized by co-precipitation method and characterized by PXRD, SEM, FTIR, and, after γ-irradiation, by optical absorption/photoluminescence spectra. Color centers responsible for optical absorption in γ-irradiated samples were identified. Phot...

Zusammenfassung:Er-doped calcium fluoride (CaF 2 ) nanoparticles were synthesized by co-precipitation method and characterized by PXRD, SEM, FTIR, and, after γ-irradiation, by optical absorption/photoluminescence spectra. Color centers responsible for optical absorption in γ-irradiated samples were identified. Photoluminescence spectrum of γ-rayed samples exhibited the emission bands peaked at 387, 442, 460, and 517 nm. The nature of radiation-induced optical absorption and photoluminescence was discussed in detail.
