description Recent trends in European spatial development show that unexplored border regions have huge potentials for tourism development, what can, on the one hand, positively influence their economic performance, and on the other hand, provide good opportunities for cross-border cooperation. This paper aims to investigate the potentials of tourism development along the Serbian and Hungarian sections of the Tisa river. The analysis of socio-demographic conditions was based on data of the 2001 and 2011 population census, in addition, tourist attractions on both sides of the border were collected and catalogued. Results show that the Hungarian-Serbian border region provides good opportunities for tourism development, which may enhance cooperation among local actors, including municipalities and entrepreneurs.
