description | Natural and consolidated clay soil used in landfills is generally used for forming floor and ceiling coverings and for the formation of side berms. Clay soil layers are effectively used to adsorb contaminants such as leachate and organic liquids. In the previous researches; it is stated that as a result of leachate passing through the clay soil, the structure of the clay soil deteriorates, and changes occur in the permeability of the ground over time. Therefore, it was found that the clay soil alone was not sufficient to provide impermeability. In this study, it is aimed to improve the clay soil properties with a nanomaterial and bentonite in order to prevent the permeability of the ground subjected to the leachate. For this purpose, leachate samples obtained from Kemerburgaz - Odayeri Landfill on the European side of Istanbul are used and the kaolin and bentonite from Esan Eczacibasi Industrial Hammaddeler San. and Tic. is used. In addition, nanomaterial obtained from Erzurum Oltu clay is used as a nanomaterial in the studies. Varying amounts of nanomaterials (Oltu nano clay) and bentonite are added to the clay soil sample. The obtained samples are subjected to compaction by standard methods and placed in the reactors. The permeability of the soil sample is investigated experimentally bypassing leachate through the reactors. At the end of the study, the addition of Oltu nano clay and bentonite to the clay soil decreased the permeability of the clay soil. |
