description Syphilis is a sexually transmitted disease which is caused by a spirochete called T. pallidum. It is known as ‘the great simulator’, owing to its range of clinical presentations. The relationship between syphilis and renal disease has been recognized for more than 100 years. Proteinuria is the most common clinical manifestation. Membranous glomerulonephritis, rapidly progressive glomerulonephritis, diffuse endocapillary glomerulonephritis with or without extracapillary formation or minimal change glomerulonephritis have been described in association with syphilis. The definitive diagnosis is confirmed by renal biopsy. We report a VDRL and TPHA positive patient who presented with nephrotic syndrome whose renal biopsy demonstrated stage one membraneous glomerulopathy.
