Zusammenfassung: | A 29-year-old woman who swallowed oil cleaner (strong hydroxide: NaOH) by mistake received conservative therapy because of having neither mediastinitis nor peritonitis. She complained of dysphagia 1 month after ingestion. Upper gastrointestinal series showed severe stricture in the middle and lower thoracic esophagus and in the antrum of the stomach. Gastrostomy and jejunostomy were performed on the 87th day after ingestion. Transthoracic subtotal esophagectomy and total gastrectomy followed by esophageal reconstruction using the colon with microvascular anastomosis through a retrosternal route was performed on the 148th day after the ingestion. On open thoracotomy, although dense mediastinal adhesions were found around the esophagus, esophagectomy could be achieved successfully. She was discharged 22 days after the second surgery without postoperative complication. |
