description This research examines the mediating role of the levers of eco-control on the effect of the green behavior intention on actual behavior, in the context of the management of medical waste. Data were collected using a questionnaire survey method, from a randomly selected sample of 125 top managers of Indonesian public hospitals. The results show that the green behavior intention affects the importance use of the four eco-control mechanisms, namely belief, boundary, diagnostic, and interactive eco-control. However, only boundary and interactive eco-control influence actual green behavior. Furthermore, the indirect effect of the test results shows the role of boundary eco-control in mediating the relationship of green behavior’s intention and green behavior. This means that the stronger the intention is, the more likely that the actual behavior will be realized through the implementation of boundary eco-control. Accordingly, the main implication of the study is that the government should formulate mandatory regulations regarding medical waste’s management. The mandatory nature of the regulation will provide a coercive way to force compliant behavior, as the underlying dimension of the boundary control mechanism.
