The complete mitochondrial genome of the monophagous moth Protegira songi (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae)

Protegira songi is a monophagous moth feeding on the Chinese protected tree of Eucommia ulmoides and has become a main defoliator of this rare tree. We determined the complete mitochondrial genome of the P. songi . The genome is 15,410 bp long with an A+T content of 79.6%. There are 37 typical anima...

description Protegira songi is a monophagous moth feeding on the Chinese protected tree of Eucommia ulmoides and has become a main defoliator of this rare tree. We determined the complete mitochondrial genome of the P. songi . The genome is 15,410 bp long with an A+T content of 79.6%. There are 37 typical animal mitochondrial genes, 13 protein- coding genes (PCGs), 22 tRNA and 2 rRNA genes and A+T-rich region. The tRNA gene trnM is rearranged to the upstream of the trnl-trnQ-trnM cluster compared with the putative ancestral arrangement of insects. The A+T-region is located between rrnS and trnM with a length of 340 bp and A+T content of 93.24%. Addition to the A+T-rich region, non-coding sequences of the mtDNA genome harbored 15 intergenic spacers. Phylogenetic tree based on the 10 complete mitochondrial genome sequences of closely related moth species accords well with the morphological phylogenetic analysis.
