description | Society nowadays depends deeply on technology, smart phones, smart payments and credit cards in most daily tasks. It is a necessity to provide a secure, easy and inexpensive way of communication between the smart phone and automatic teller machines (ATM) or card readers as the currently used magnetic cards are vulnerable to thefts. Here, we have implemented a system which replaces the magnetic card with the built-in flashlight of an Android smart phone to transmit the data stored on the magnetic strip to the camera on the ATM machine. The inbuilt flash of smart phones act as the transmitter, where the LED flash switching speed is controlled by an Android Application and the receiver is a Camera for capturing the transmitted bits. This way of communication can be considered safe as here Line of Sight is Required, which is an advantage compared to other sort of Communications. |
