Son of Single Mom Respects Females

Like taut, tied-down springs ready to be cut loose, every muscle in his body was tense. At the sound of the whistle, the wrestling match began between my 14-year-old son and a 17-year-old girl. Both of them were tense. Television cameras, reporters, and a crowd of about 150 were watching this January night because after winning a long legal fight for that right, Daleena Garrelts was the first female to compete in wrestling in our Springfield, Oregon school district.
