Haze Still Surrounds Green Tobacco Sickness
Green Tobacco Sickness (GTS) occurs when workers absorb nicotine through their skin. Forty-seven cases of GTS were reported in a five-county region of Kentucky in 1992, and 66 cases were reported in the same region in 1993. The burley tobacco grown in Kentucky is frequently harvested by hand.
