description In order to ensure sustainable development in agriculture, energy, economic and environmental aspects of products should be determined and compared. To achieve this objective, the energy use to grow up of every 1000 chicks was calculated. In this study, the energy use, energy efficiency and energy output were investigated to determine the economic level for poultry plant located in Mersin province in Turkey. In broiler production systems, the effect on energy use efficiency and economic indices was examined. The energy use efficiency (EUE) and the cost-benefit ratio (BCR) were found to be 0.48 and 2.47, respectively. In the broiler, energy efficiency (EP), specific energy (SE) and net energy (NE) were calculated as 0.05 kg/MJ, 21.56 MJ/kg and -1051697.47 MJ/1000 birds respectively. If we categorize the total energy input consumed, it is found that 4.06% direct energy (DE), 95.94% indirect energy (IDE), 95.90% renewable energy (RE) and 4.10% non-renewable (NRE) energy. While feed and electricity contributed the most in total energy inputs, diesel fuel and chicks became important inputs in economic analysis. In this study, it is recommended to enhance broiler production by providing subsidies to promote the use of highly efficient equipment. It is observed that the feed energy has the highest share in the total energy use.
