FORMALISM, FUNCTIONALISM, AND THE SEPARATION OF POWERS

The debate over formalism and functionalism is a prime example of an area in which political polarity obscures areas of common ground. At some point, both become metaphors for the traditional problem of distinguishing between easy cases and hard ones.
