description Considering highly complex or critical patients with a diagnosis of activity intolerance, this study presented as a problem situation the difficulty of some nurses to identify the limit of tolerance to the activity of patients admitted to the ICU. Aiming to: identify in the nursing scientific literature, using the PICO strategy to determine better available evidence. The method used for this research was of a descriptive nature carried out through a systematized bibliographic review addressing the chosen theme, published in the period from 2011 to 2017, carried out in the period of October and November of 2018. The practical question guided this search was: How to optimize the interprofessional care of the highly complex or critical patient diagnosed with activity intolerance through evidence-based nursing practice? A survey was performed at the Virtual Health Library (VHL), based on LILACS and BDENF, using the PICO strategy to identify the terms and remained classified as follows: (P) Inpatient OR Cardiac Insufficiency OR Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease OR Multiple Sclerosis OR Stroke AND Critical Care AND (I) Cardiac Care OR Oxygenation AND (O) Nursing Care OR Patient Care AND Energy Conservation. Getting as results 10 articles that approached the researched topic. It can conclude that the intolerance to the activity is a diagnosis little explored in the scientific literature of nursing. The recommendation of this study reinforces the invitation to carry out new research on the part of nursing students, professional nurses and researchers, in order to enrich the scientific literature and knowledge on this topic.
