On the evolution of PA s to Araphaho /n

The reflex of Proto-Algonquian (PA) prevocalic *s in Arapaho is discussed in detail. It is misleading to speak of "the shift of initial *s to n" to characterize what is actually a correspondence between two widely divergent segments which are linked by a whole series of sound changes.
