Buffer-dependent pH sensitivity of the fluorescent chloride-indicator dye SPQ

The pH-dependent effect on 6-methoxy-N-(3-sulfopropyl)quinolinium (SPQ) fluorescence of two commonly used buffers was studied. Findings indicate that the buffers quench SPQ fluorescence strongly in a pH-dependent manner.
