Zusammenfassung: | Santos RRC, Rosa ECCC, Gris EF, Ferreira EA, Rosa TS, Andrade RV, Amato AA. Association between Lifestyle and Oxidative Stress Markers in Young Active Men. JEP online 2019;22 (3):75-86. The purpose of this study was to verify the association between caloric expenditure based on physical activity intensity, sedentary behavior, and sleep quality index, and serum markers of oxidative stress (OS) in 35 active young men using an integrated approach. Questionnaires were used to determine caloric expenditure from vigorous, moderate, or light physical activity; sedentary behavior; and sleep quality. Serum OS markers included thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) and ferric reducing antioxidant potential (FRAP). Multiple linear regression analysis, unadjusted and adjusted for age, body mass index, and fat percentage analyze the data. In the unadjusted and adjusted models, sedentary behavior was associated positively with FRAP (B=1.44, 3.02, P=0.01, 0.00, respectively), and negatively with TBARS (B=-0.23, -1.63, P=0.14, 0.01, respectively). Caloric expenditure in light physical activity was negatively associated with TBARS (B=-0.23; -0.21, P=0.02; 0.01) in both models. The unadjusted model showed significant interference with FRAP, TBARS, and FRAP/TBARS ratio (F=0.01, 0.00, 0.00, respectively). Thus, our findings indicate that lifestyle factors are associated with OS markers in young active men. Key Words: Physical Activity, Sedentary Behavior, Sleep |
