Zusammenfassung: | The objective of this chapter is to estimate the contribution of inequality of opportunities to the distribution of the access to basic education, between 2001 and 2007 in Cameroon. The method of data analysis is based on dissimilarity indices. The results show that despite a favorable trend of inequality of opportunities (that is 26% in 2001 and 22% in 2007), it is still high compared to other contexts. The four most decisive circumstances are the level of education of the head of household, the area of residence, the standard of living of the household and the distance to school infrastructures. On this basis, we recommend a reinforcement of policies such as the abolition of tuition fees, the organization of awareness campaigns for under-educated, and the distribution of scholarships to girls and vulnerable children. |
