Zusammenfassung:This column discusses the suggestion in the November 2000 Journal of the American Water Works Association that because of the plight of the poor in developing countries, the US Environmental Protection Agency should not reduce the maximum contaminant level for arsenic. The opinion given states that the savings by utilities that would result from allowing an additional risk to their customers would not be diverted to providing better water and sanitation in developing countries.
