With the elderly the fastest growing segment of the US population and many of these dependent on federal and community food programs for a major part of their sustenance, there is concern that many experience food insecurity. This article addresses the nutritional status of the elderly, factors that affect nutrient intake, and documents the impact of adding liquid nutrition supplements for homebound elderly at risk for poor nutritional status
