description In July 2005, above 50 soil samples were collected from 27 sites localized in the Giant Mountains (Karkonosze in Polish) in the Wielki and Maly Staw catchments. The investigated soils showed relatively low variation of structure and chemical composition, which is mainly determined by slight diferences in the composition of the mother rock. The knowledge of thickness and surface covered by particular types of soil and results of the analyses of particular samples allowed to in describe detail for Maly and Wielki Staw catchments. It was analysed to fnd which of the investigated physico-chemical parameters are responsible for the diferentation of soils and to establish which of the biotopic parameters has an impact on this differentation.
