Elevation of the Wear Resistance of Low-Alloy Structural Steel by Plasma-Powder Surfacing with Alloys Based on Iron, Chromium, and Nickel

We study the chemical and structural inhomogeneities and the parameters of wear resistance of the coatings obtained by the arc-welding method. The coatings were obtained from PR-KhN80SSR3, PN-AN-34, and Kh17N8S6G powders based on nickel, cobalt, and iron, respectively, and from an experimental powde...

description We study the chemical and structural inhomogeneities and the parameters of wear resistance of the coatings obtained by the arc-welding method. The coatings were obtained from PR-KhN80SSR3, PN-AN-34, and Kh17N8S6G powders based on nickel, cobalt, and iron, respectively, and from an experimental powder based on Ni and Fe. The tribological properties of iron-based alloys are better than for the cobalt- and nickel-based alloys. In the course of friction, the austenitic component of the coating undergoes plastic deformation as a result of which it covers the surface as a lubricant, which decreases the friction coefficient and wear.
