When BMI was classified as underweight, normal weight and overweight it was possible to find a significant difference (p=0.04) between the groups regarding their eating habits. As for individuals with overweight the most consumed foods were: fruits, vegetables and greens (86%), pasta, breads and biscuits (82%), foods of animal origin (73%) and sweets in general (27%). Conclusions: Most patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus are overweight and there are significant differences in food choices according to their BMI score.
