A comparison of NO and N(2)O production by the autotrophic nitrifier Nitrosomonas europaea and the heterotrophic nitrifier Alcaligenes faecalis

A study examined nitric oxide and nitrous oxide production by the heterotrophic nitrifier Alcaligenes faecalis. Results indicate that heterotrophic nitrification is an important source of nitrous oxide in soils and water.
