Parkinson, Dwight, Winnipeg; McGill University, 1941; neurosurgery; FRCSC; former chief, section of neurosurgery, Health Sciences Centre (Winnipeg General Hospital, Children's Hospital, Rehabilitation Hospital, Womens Centre and Psychiatric Hospital); professor, University of Manitoba; first president, Canadian Neurosurgical Society; past president, Winnipeg Medical Historical Society, Canadian Society of Neurological Surgeons, Manitoba chapter of the American College of Surgeons, and Manitoba Golf Association. He was also an international figure skating judge (1955-1969). Died Feb. 1, 2005, aged 88; survived by his children, Graeme, Gerald, Terrence and Robert, and his grandchildren, Andrew, Rebecca, Kara and Chelsea. "So many Western Canadians owed their lives and good health to Dwight's excellence in his field and devotion to health care. Dwight never thought much of his personal accomplishments but, rather, valued most highly every moment he could spend with his friends, colleagues and family." |
