Zusammenfassung:An abstract of a study by Wang et al on the anti-tumor effect and mechanisms of concurrent targeting epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) and metabolism in sarcoma cell lines is presented. The study examined the inhibitory effects of PENAO and/or gefitinib by xCELLigence real-time and MTT end-point proliferation assays. Furthermore, the combination therapy was analysed using CalcuSyn software. Annexin-V/Propidium Iodide flow cytometry, Western blot, and real-time metabolic analysis. Results showed the decrease of cell proliferation in both time- and dose-dependent settings by combination therapy using gefitinib and PENAO. In vitro mechanism studies showed that the combined treatment significantly enhanced apoptosis, and perturbed mitochondrial function.
