The primary predictors of atherosclerosis and coronary artery disease (CAD) in cosmonauts are decreased endothelium-dependent vasodilation in the right brachial artery, C-reactive protein (hsCRP) level > 2 mg/L, and high atherogenic index. These CAD predictors should be of particular concern during medical screening of candidates for cosmonauts.
