Synergistic Effects of Black Bean (Yak-Kong; Rhynchosia molubilis) and Levan on the Prevention of Bone Loss in Osteoporotic Model Rats

Kang et al examine the synergistic effects of the water extracts of black bean and levan on trabecular bone formation and calcium metabolism in the osteoporosis model in rats. The results of the study suggest a curing effect of black bean and levan against bone loss in the OVX rat: intake of black of black bean levan may increase bone mineral density of trabecular and serum calcium concentration but not tibia weight. Furthermore, the synergistic effect of black bean and levan may aggravate bone loss, leading to potential health problems in the ovariectomized osteoporotic model rats.
