Zusammenfassung: | An abstract of a study by Straub et al highlighting lessons learned from implementation of Truvada as PrEP in an inner-city family planning/STI clinic is presented. Clearly, PrEP can be an effective weapon in armamentarium against HIV, but implementation is challenging and poses many obstacles for staff and patients. However, acute events, when patients clearly perceive their risk, may provide unique opportunities. Having a protocol in place, with information handouts and prepared counseling format, coupled with a streamlined system to navigate the unfamiliar funding issues, may allow providers to capitalize on these golden moments. Additionally, providers should encourage, when appropriate, those utilizing nPEP to consider a longer term commitment to PrEP. |
