Zusammenfassung:The synthesis of a bidentate phosphine, 1,2-bis(bis(4-methylthio)phenyl)phosphino)ethane (DpPSMePE), for coordination to both iron (through the phosphines) and subsequent outer-sphere coordination to PdS nanoparticles (through distal –SMe moieties) is presented. Coordination to iron yielded two distinct coordination complexes: trans -FeCl 2 (DpPSMePE) 2 and (μ-DpPSMePE-κ P :κ P′ ) 2 (FeCl 2 ) 2 . The trans -FeCl 2 (DpPSMePE) 2 complex is high-spin, (μ eff  = 4.55 BM) with four unpaired electrons. The attempted formation of a hydride complex and its coordination to PbS nanoparticles are discussed.
