Zusammenfassung:Reviews the book, The Sesame Effect: The Global Impact of the Longest Street in the World, edited by Charlotte F. Cole and June H. Lee (see record 2016-20917-000). The television show, Sesame Street, is seen as one of the foundational pillars for building school readiness and promotes early childhood education in many countries. Cole and Lee have assembled nine views of Sesame Street and its impact on the local culture in communities all over the world. This book would be a must-read in a graduate-level course on child development. Some of the chapters discuss the general effect Sesame Street has on the local community, others approach from a global perspective, and some focus specifically on the United States, Egypt, sub-Saharan Africa, Palestine, the Middle East, Northern Ireland, Kosovo, India, and Mexico. Each chapter focusing on a specific part of the world highlights how the program is culturally specific to the people and community where it is viewed.
