description Reports an error in "Relationship of perceived maternal acceptance-rejection in childhood and social support networks of pregnant adolescents" by Barry R. Sherman and Barry R. Donovan ( American Journal of Orthopsychiatry, 1991[Jan], Vol 61[1], 103-113). A revision in the text was not matched by a commensurate change in Table 3 (p. 111). As a result, the values of the numbers in three columns in that table are reversed. Numbers in the columns headed "REJECTION" and "PARQ TOTAL" are negative values and should have been preceded by minus signs; entries in the column headed "ACCEPTANCE" are positive numbers and should not have been preceded by minus signs. (The following abstract of the original article appeared in record 1991-18147-001.) Examined the relationship between perceptions of maternal acceptance–rejection in childhood and the nature of social supports in 53 at-risk pregnant adolescents (aged 13–18 yrs). While mothers of the Ss and fathers of the babies were supportive when present, 20% of Ss reported having no relationship with these individuals. On average, 65% of the Ss reported having no relationship with other members of their social network. Ss who perceived maternal acceptance during childhood reported more social interaction with and higher expectations from important social network members than did those Ss who reported perceived maternal rejection. Implications for public health strategies are discussed. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2016 APA, all rights reserved)
