description | The current study was carried out with the purpose of determining the efficiency of two alternative diets in the feeding of Colossoma macropomum ('cachama negra') alevins, using Erythrina edulis ('chachafruto') and soybean as the protein source and as substitute of fishmeal, comparing it with a control diet based on fishmeal. The diets were formulated with a crude protein (CP) theoretical percentage of 30. C. macropomum alevins were selected with an initial weight between 1.88 and 2.08g. The feeding was ad libitum during 10 weeks. It was possible to observe directly (visually) that the fish had good acceptance of the food and great voracity, and none of the growth parameters varied significantly as a function of the food received during the 10 weeks that the experiment lasted. With regard to the body composition of the C. macropomum fed with the different diets, the percentage of protein (% of dry matter) was between 66.03 and 68.75, without significant differences between the diets, while the lipid content (% DM) was between 11.26 and 16.03 and showed significant differences between diets. According to the results, a total substitution of fishmeal by E. edulis a nd s oybean flour w ould l ead t o g ood r esults in the feeding of C. macropomum alevins. [PUBLICATION ABSTRACT] |
