Zusammenfassung: | The causes of industrial flight & its costs to workers & trade unions in the US are assessed. Various strategies for combating plant closures are evaluated, including proposed federal legislation & localized forms of worker intervention such as the Youngstown Community Steel Corp. Pointing out the limitations of these approaches, a more global political solution is proposed. Known as the alternative economic strategy in Western Europe, this solution would aim to reindustrialize the US economy through large measures of nationalization, public planning, & worker control.
