I001: Heart rate monitoring and ageing in untreated uncomplicated essential hypertensive patients

In about ten years of observation we carried out ambulatory BP and heart rate recording (A&D 2420) in 1650 untreated and uncomplicated essential hypertensive patients (808 males—842 females). These recordings were subdivided on the basis of the patient's age: Group I, 104 males—72 females, from 35 to 40 years; Group II, 110 M—102 F, 41 to 45 years; Group III, 151 M—125 F, 46 to 50 years; Group IV, 158 M—161 F, 51 to 55 years; Group V, 115 M—117 F, 56 to 60 years; Group VI, 86 M—106 F, 61 to 65 years; Group VII, 53 M—98 F, 66 to 70 years; Group VIII, 31 M—61 F, 71 to 75 years. Heart rate was progressively decreasing throughout the ageing in both males and females, in whom significantly higher values were seen in the younger groups. (See Figure)
