Reaching SDGs Through Public Institutions and Good Governance: Why Trust Matters

This chapter discusses the importance of trust as a key determinant of good governance and potential for growth and sustainable development in the context of reaching Sustainable Development Goals. It encompasses conceptual framework for understanding trust as emotional determinant of economic and social processes of the country. The chapter shows that huge progress has been made on trust issue in mainstream economics as well as other social disciplines. It presents conceptual framework for understanding trust as emotional determinant of economic and social processes of the country and across the world. The chapter outlines multilevel concept for restoring trust in financial system of the country since global financial crisis has been associated with trust crisis and the loss of financial and other public institutions' reputation, collapse of public confidence and trust.
