Ninety years ago the 1930 Revolution sealed the end of an old republic, symbol of a Brazil of agricultural exports, dominated by an oligarchical and fraudulent political system with a strong social exclusion of working-class sectors; at the same time it marked the beginning of the construction in Brazil of a new republic, a modern and industrialized nation, defeating oligarchical power in the name of the collective interest, and a policy of social inclusion based on corporatist type legislation.
